Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French chateau style cushion mantelpiece mirror is fashioned from giltwood, gesso, and glass with a gold finish. The rectangular frame incorporates dentil cresting along the top edge, marginal border mirror plates, beaded trim moulding, and carved corner rosettes alongside leaf and flower gesso ornamentation, set upon small square feet. Original mirror plates remain clear throughout. Measuring 130 cm high, 114 cm wide, and 5 cm deep, the mirror sits above a mantelpiece in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The piece hangs securely on a wall or rests horizontally upon a mantel surface to reflect natural light and create a sense of space.

A French cushion mirror, or miroir coussin, features a central glass plate framed by a border of smaller angled or flat secondary mirror panels, designed to enhance light reflection across grand interior spaces.

Craftsmen carved wooden frames, applied layers of gesso plaster, and layered gold leaf over a coloured clay base known as bole before mounting the glass plates within the frame.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved wood structures, mercury or early silvered glass showing natural foxing, multi-panel frame assembly, and subtle wear where the red clay bole shows beneath the gilding.

Positioning a large gilt mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or sideboard adds architectural interest and balances contemporary minimalist furnishings with historical texture.

Avoid harsh liquid cleaners or water on the gilded surface, and dust gently using a dry soft brush or microfibre cloth to preserve the delicate gold leaf finish.
