P0220 A superb mid-19th-century French chateau giltwood wall mirror, circa 1840, showcasing an versatile form designed for either horizontal (landscape) or vertical (portrait) display. The rectangular frame features deep-relief carvings of classical scrolls and intricate floral motifs that elegantly accent each corner and the central points. Preserving its highly desirable original glass, the mirror plate exhibits a beautiful, characterful, and graduated foxing that lends immense historic depth and antique charm to the piece. The frame retains its original gold leaf gilding and authentic patina, with the warm red bole undertones subtly showing through the finish, a prized hallmark of period craftsmanship. For enhanced structural longevity and ease of modern installation, the mirror has been expertly fitted with a new protective backboard and four wall fixing brackets.
