Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Napoleon III French chair has an upholstered barrel back and a rounded seat covered in a patterned fabric with red, yellow, and green floral motifs against a pale background. A decorative fringe in vertical stripes of red, gold, and green hangs from the lower edge, finished with a twisted cord trim. Turned wooden feet with small castors support the base. It measures 71 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 66 cm deep. Position this compact seating option in a bedroom, by a fireside, or as an occasional chair in a living room to add traditional French style and pattern to the interior scheme.

Originating in 19th-century France during the Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III eras, the crapaud chair is a low-slung, fully upholstered armchair. It features a contoured, rounded back, short legs, and often includes a fringe skirt covering the base.

Authentic 19th-century French armchairs typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as beech or walnut, combined with hand-tied steel coil springs, webbing, and natural fillings like horsehair or fibre. Upholstery often comprises woven jacquard, velour, or tapestry textiles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved turned wooden legs, original ceramic or brass castors, traditional stuffing materials, and hand-tacked upholstery undersides. The frame proportions will reflect low, comfortable seating typical of French boudoir furniture.

A crapaud chair functions as a standalone accent piece in a bedroom corner, dressing room, or living room alcove. Pairing the detailed patterned fabric with minimalist backdrop walls or modern side lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition between historic detail and contemporary design.

Period upholstery should be gently vacuumed using a soft brush attachment and kept out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading. Metal castors and turned wooden legs can be maintained with light application of clear furniture wax to protect original patination.
