This Georgian mahogany tea caddy is a Georgian object in rich brown mahogany, bone, and timber inlay. The rectangular box sits on a flat base and features a hinged rectangular lid with flame mahogany veneer, barber pole stringing, and a diamond-shaped white keyhole escutcheon on the front. Visible details include distinct grain patterns across the timber surfaces, decorative stringing borders along the edges of the lid and front panels, and a polished warm patina. The piece measures 10.75 cm high, 20.25 cm wide, and 10.25 cm deep. In a modern interior, this tea caddy finds a natural home on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or console table within an English country house setting. It serves as a decorative tabletop accessory or a small storage box for keepsakes and trinkets, bringing classic period character to living spaces, studies, or dining rooms.

A Georgian tea caddy is a lockable container manufactured during the eighteenth or early nineteenth century in Britain, designed specifically to secure and store loose-leaf tea.

These caddies were typically constructed using native or imported hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, often featuring delicate timber stringing inlay and bone or mother-of-pearl escutcheons.

Authentic pieces often display hand-cut dovetail joints, natural timber shrinkage on unveneered undersides, hand-hammered iron or brass hardware, and original lead-lined interior compartments.

A caddy functions as a decorative accent piece when styled on a sideboard, coffee table, or bookshelf, serving either as a standalone object or for storing small personal items.

Keep the wooden box away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent veneer movement, and apply natural beeswax polish periodically using a soft cotton cloth.
