A Secret Drawer Georgian Tea Caddy

£395    $535    €465
A very fine Geo III period Chippendale style tea caddy WITH SECRET DRAWER. Circa 1775 with well grained mahogany veneer. Quality brass ball and claw feet, lions mask side handles and swan neck lid pull. Three section foil lined inner compartments each having a lid with a brass pull. WORKING BRASS LOCK WITH A KEY. The secret compartment is very well concealed and is revealed by lifting the right hand panel. A slim oak drawer is within having a cupids bow brass pull. The secret compartment is often thought to be to secure silver caddy spoons but this is not definitive and there are of course many other applications today. The whole is made secure with a lockable lid. Overall a very handsome piece.
