This late Victorian revolving desk chair originates from the 19th Century. The construction combines mahogany and leather, complemented by brass studding and castors, presenting a colour palette of tan and dark brown. Visible details include a deep buttoned upholstery finish on the backrest, a spindle back rest design, brass nailhead trim along the edges, carved cabriole legs, and small round feet fitted with wheels. Minor surface wear appears on the wooden frame, while the leather seat cushion shows natural creasing. Practical proportions make this piece suitable for positioning beside a writing table, partner desk, or bureau in a study, home office, or reading room. Sitting comfortably behind a workspace, the swivelling mechanism allows for easy movement and adjustment during administrative tasks or reading sessions.

Originating in the late 19th century, revolving desk chairs were designed to provide mobility and support in Victorian libraries and offices, combining mechanical castors and swivel bases with traditional upholstery.

These chairs were constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring deep-buttoned leather upholstery, brass studding, and iron revolving mechanisms.

Authentic pieces from the late 19th century feature hand-fitted joinery, original cast-iron swivel mechanisms, brass studding, and age-related patination on the timber and leather.

Pair the chair with a minimalist writing desk or a dark wood executive desk, balancing its visual weight with contemporary lighting and neutral wall tones.

Condition the leather periodically with specialised balm to prevent drying, dust the spindle back regularly, and keep the iron swivel mechanism lightly oiled.
