Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Rococo Revival wall mirror dates to 1910 and displays a rectangular bevelled glass plate enclosed within an elaborate pierced giltwood frame. The frame has a rich gold colour and is formed from scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and flowing C-scrolls that create an open border, topped by a prominent pierced crest with a central cartouche and anchored by a shaped lower foliate rail. The visible details include deep sculptural carving, layered scrollwork, and a highly textured gilded finish that catches the light across every curve and edge. The piece measures 156 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. In a modern interior, this mirror suits placement in a drawing room, hallway, or above a mantelpiece where it reflects light and adds a decorative architectural element to a wall. The scale works well above a standard fireplace or console table, bringing historical French Chateau character to traditional or eclectic spaces.

FAQs

Rococo Revival emerged in the mid-19th century, recreating 18th-century French Rococo aesthetics characterised by asymmetrical scrolls, floral garlands, and elaborate foliage motifs.

These mirrors typically feature carved timber frameworks coated with gesso, which is then covered in thin gold leaf and burnished to create a lustrous gilded finish surrounding a bevelled glass plate.

Authentic pieces show signs of age such as natural craquelure in the gesso, subtle wear to the gold leaf revealing the underlying bole, and historical joinery on the rear backing panel.

Position the mirror above a contemporary sideboard or fireplace mantelpiece to create a focal point that contrasts ornate carved detailing with clean modern lines.

Dust the giltwood gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water, chemical solvents, or liquid cleaners which can dissolve water-gilded finishes and damage the gesso beneath.
