Small French Gilt Mirror C.1880

Description

Small French giltwood wall mirror c.1880. Original 27" x 23" mirror plate with the distinctive sparkle of old mercury glass. Within a broad moulded wooden frame with ribbed surface and decorative gesso mouldings at the corners. Original gilded finish worn and rubbed through in places to reveal the red ground below. Some tarnish to the mirror and minor retouching to the gilding. Generally very good original condition. Could be hung either landscape or portrait aspect.
