Originating in the late 19th century, revolving desk chairs were designed to provide mobility and support in Victorian libraries and offices, combining mechanical castors and swivel bases with traditional upholstery.

These chairs were constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring deep-buttoned leather upholstery, brass studding, and iron revolving mechanisms.

Authentic pieces from the late 19th century feature hand-fitted joinery, original cast-iron swivel mechanisms, brass studding, and age-related patination on the timber and leather.

Pair the chair with a minimalist writing desk or a dark wood executive desk, balancing its visual weight with contemporary lighting and neutral wall tones.

Condition the leather periodically with specialised balm to prevent drying, dust the spindle back regularly, and keep the iron swivel mechanism lightly oiled.
