Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Windsor armchair is defined by its construction, where back spindles and legs are socketed directly into a solid wooden seat rather than continuing from the back posts. Originating in 18th-century England, the style features steam-bent timber rails, decorative central splats, and turned legs joined by stretchers.

Regional makers traditionally combined multiple native hardwoods suited to specific components. Seats were commonly carved from elm for its strength and grain pattern, back bows were steam-bent from ash or yew, while turned legs and spindles were fashioned from beech, yew, or fruitwood.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved shaped seats, wedge tenon joints visible on top of the seat or bow, and irregular hand-turned legs. Surface patination, natural wear around the stretcher rails, and wood shrinkage over time also indicate genuine age.

A Windsor chair functions effectively as a standalone accent piece in a contemporary hallway, living room corner, or study. Pairing dark polished timber with neutral textured soft furnishings creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist modern decor.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying beeswax every few months along the grain. Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and humid environments to prevent the timber from splitting or warping.
