Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, developing from vernacular furniture-making traditions where spindles were inserted directly into a solid wooden seat.

Traditional construction typically involves a combination of timbers, often utilising yew, elm, or ash for the carved seat, alongside bentwood components and slender turned spindles.

Authentic pieces often exhibit tool marks, hand-turned components, age-related patination, and construction methods such as wedged through-tennong joints.

Pairing a traditional wooden chair with a contemporary table creates a balanced contrast, adding organic warmth and historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood surface.
