Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Adam Revival style, emerging in the late 19th century, draws inspiration from the 18th-century Neoclassical designs of Robert Adam. It is characterised by classical symmetry, delicate proportions, and decorative motifs such as urns, swags, husks, and beaded moulding.

These mirrors feature a wooden frame coated with gessoa smooth paste made of chalk and size. Intricate decorative elements, such as cresting and garlands, were sculpted or cast in composition, then finished with gold leaf using traditional gilding techniques.

Authentic period pieces demonstrate natural wear to the gilded finish, often revealing the red or grey clay bole beneath the surface. Look for period backboards, hand-cut glass plates, subtle oxidisation to the silvering, and original mounting wire or rings.

Positioning an Adam Revival mirror above a fireplace mantel or console table creates a focal point in a modern room scheme. The golden metallic tone provides contrast against dark wall paint or neutral architectural backdrops.

Avoid liquid cleaners, solvents, or water, as moisture dissolves gesso and damages gilding. Dust the frame gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, preserving the original surface patina without abrasive polishing.
