Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Victorian Adam Revival wall mirror brings neoclassical refinement to a home interior. Constructed from carved giltwood and gesso with a warm gold finish, the piece features an oval form enclosing bevelled mirrored glass within a moulded frame and a beaded slip. The elaborate decoration includes an urn cresting, trailing ribbon swags, husk garlands, and a scrollwork base with ribbon acanthus and harebell aprons. Signs of age appear in the gentle patina of the gilded surface and the aged character of the glass. Measuring 109 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 3 cm deep, this vertical wall hanging suits placement above a sideboard in a dining room, a mantelpiece in a drawing room, or a console table in an entrance hallway to reflect light and add architectural interest.

FAQs

Adam Revival style draws inspiration from eighteenth-century neoclassical designs pioneered by Robert Adam, featuring light proportions, urn cresting, ribbon swags, and delicate husk garlands.

Frame structures were carved from timber, coated with layers of gesso plaster, decorated with molded composition ornament, and finished with hand-applied gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces feature carved wood substrates beneath gesso, wire-supported delicate trailing ornament, natural age-related oxidisation, and original bevelled glass plates.

Position the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantelpiece to establish visual balance between classical ornamentation and clean architectural lines.

Dust gently with a soft dry feather duster or dry artist paintbrush, avoiding water, damp cloths, and chemical cleaners that dissolve soft gesso and gold leaf.
