Adam Revival style mirrors emulate the 18th-century designs of architect Robert Adam, characterised by Neoclassical symmetry, delicate profiles, and motifs such as oval frames, urns, and beaded edging.

Traditional gilt mirrors are crafted using a carved timber or composite base covered with a layer of gesso, over which thin gold leaf is applied, accompanied by silvered glass plates.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit timber backings, natural distressing or oxidisation on the mirror plate, and subtle wear revealing the reddish bolus or white gesso beneath the gilded layer.

An oval gilt mirror creates contrast when hung above a minimalist modern sideboard or fireplace mantel, introducing texture and reflecting natural light across clean-lined spaces.

Clean gilded surfaces using a dry, soft bristle brush or lint-free cloth to remove dust, avoiding liquid sprays or chemical solvents that strip the delicate gilding layer.
