Large Antique French Gilt Mirror

Dimensions:W: 105cm (41.3")H: 173cm (68.1")

Large antique French gilt Louis XV mirror in excellent original condition.

It dates from around 1880.

It has its elegant real gilt (gold leaf) on gesso egg and dart frame with a beautiful shell and laurel crest, lovely curved shoulders and side scrolls.

It has its original heavy glass with no scratches in superb condition and all its original backboards.

Perfect overmantel or it is plenty tall enough to be a freestanding leaner mirror.

A French giltwood mirror is a period wall mirror characterised by a carved wooden frame coated in gesso and covered with ultra-thin gold leaf. Prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries, these mirrors often featured decorative motifs such as cresting shells, floral garlands, and beaded borders.
