Large Antique French Gilt Mirror

Large antique French gilt Louis XV mirror in excellent original condition.

It dates from around 1880.

It has its elegant real gilt (gold leaf) on gesso egg and dart frame with a beautiful shell and laurel crest, lovely curved shoulders and side scrolls.

It has its original heavy glass with no scratches in superb condition and all its original backboards.

Perfect overmantel or it is plenty tall enough to be a freestanding leaner mirror.

This large antique French Rococo Revival wall mirror dates from the nineteenth century and is constructed from giltwood, gesso, and glass in a gold colour. The arched top holds a central shell crest and floral leaf details, while the frame incorporates beaded moulding, egg and dart work, and side scrolls. The glass plate is heavy and original. The dimensions are 173 cm high and 105 cm wide. Suitable for use above a mantel in a living room or reception room, the mirror can also function as a freestanding leaner against a wall. The construction includes original backboards and real gold leaf applied over gesso.
