Description

A good early 19thc yew wood high back armchair c1840 with the crinoline stretcher ( for ladies long skirts) in immaculate condition.

Wonderful rich colour with no repairs or wobbles, it stands 108cms h and 64cms wide.

No makers stamp but these chairs are referred to as being made in either worksop or yorkshire in the chair "bible" w.cotton,s regional chairs.

Only the highest class were made of yew with elaborate central back splats which this has. Apart from the seat which is elm the rest is yew wood including the spindles.

Lovely deep colour and patination.

These chairs where dotted about country cottages/houses as they are extremely comfortable and are also decorative.
