A good quality oak arm chair in remarkably original condition. The single panel back carved with a saltire with punch decoration, scrolling cresting rail above, good thick arms above turned uprights and cupids bows beneath the seat rails. All parts are original including the bottom rails and seat, there are four screws beneath the seat rails to hold the seat, these appear to be 19th century hand cut screws and are the only repair I can detect. The top finials are lost to time as is usually the case and there is some loss to height. The chair has a wonderful surface with a deep and graduated patina. Although not the largest of chairs it has great presence and authority and is one of the most un-molested examples I have seen. Due to the pronounced rake to the back that is common in chairs of this period it is extremely comfortable
