FAQs

Pioneered by Michael Thonet in the 19th century, bentwood manufacturing involved steaming solid wood rods to bend them into curved, organic shapes, revolutionising mass production and commercial furniture design.

Authentic pieces primarily utilise steamed beechwood, shaped using heat and moisture, and secured with screw fixings or traditional joinery, often featuring pressed plywood seats with decorative relief patterns.

Authenticity is typically verified by paper labels, impressed makers marks, stamped branding on the underside of the wood, characteristic hardware, and specific construction techniques unique to the factory.

These versatile pieces can be paired with modern minimalist dining tables or used as standalone accent seating in a study or hallway to introduce organic warmth and historical texture.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping, treating periodically with appropriate furniture wax, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
