This 18th-century child's rocking chair embodies a rustic farmhouse style, constructed entirely from solid elm with a warm brown colour and prominent natural grain patterns across the board surfaces. The design includes high winged sides, a pierced handhold near the top rail, and curved wooden rockers integrated into the base. Visible details encompass an aged patina with surface wear, a central circular hole on the backboard, and a low footrest bar spanning the front opening between the runners. Measuring 56 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, this compact seating piece suits placement near a fireplace hearth or as an accent display in a traditional living room setting.

Designed during the Georgian period, these small-scale rocking chairs were crafted from native hardwoods for use in nurseries and traditional hearthside settings.

Vernacular craftsmen utilised native timbers such as elm, oak, or ash, employing solid board construction, hand-cut joinery, and integrated wooden rockers.

Authentic pieces display hand-hewn tool marks, irregular proportions, genuine surface oxidisation, hand-cut wooden pegs, and natural wear along the runners and handrests.

This type of accent piece functions as a sculptural decorative object placed within a fireplace alcove, nursery corner, or alongside larger living room furniture.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually, keeping the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
