Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Victorian wall mirror brings classic English Country House style to a hallway or entranceway. The warm brown walnut frame has a shaped pediment topped by a carved shell cresting with gilded decoration. Above the rectangular mirror glass sits a hand-painted floral still life oil painting panel depicting a vibrant bouquet of pink, yellow, blue, and white flowers in a vase, bordered by patterned moulding. Measuring 81 cm in height and 34 cm in width, it is sized for hanging on a wall beside the front door or in a narrow corridor to check appearances before leaving the house. The glass provides a clear reflection while the painted floral artwork adds colour and texture to interior spaces. This piece hangs securely in hallways, porches, or boot rooms, combining practical use with decorative Victorian craftsmanship.

FAQs

A trumeau or hall mirror traditionally features a glass mirror plate surmounted by a decorative painted or carved timber panel within a single unified frame, a style that gained prominence during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These mirrors were constructed using solid walnut or walnut veneers laid over pine framing, paired with hand-painted oil panels, gilded timber mouldings, and silvered glass plates.

Authentic period mirrors display signs of hand-planed backing boards, original iron hanging fittings, natural oxidisation on the mirror glass, and hand-carved joinery details.

Mounting the mirror above a contemporary console table or within a narrow hallway creates vertical interest, seamlessly bridging historic craftsmanship with modern interior schemes.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying natural beeswax polish, ensuring liquid cleaners are avoided near hand-painted panels and gilded surfaces.
