A Finely Carved Attractive Late 19thc Oval Wall Mirror

A handsome and highly decorative carved wood oval wall mirror, the moulded frame richly ornamented with trailing leaf and floral decoration and surmounted by an elaborate pierced crest.

The oval frame is particularly well executed, with a deeply moulded inner border enclosing the newly fitted plate glass, while the outer frame is embellished with delicately carved leaves and flowers. The impressive crest above is formed from scrolling, ribbon-like carving accompanied by further foliate motifs, giving the mirror an elegant and architectural appearance.

The timber has developed an attractive warm, rich brown patina, with variations in colour and surface that give the carving considerable depth and character. The newly fitted mirror plate provides a clean reflective surface while allowing the original carved frame to remain the principal decorative feature.

A very attractive statement mirror of pleasing proportions, suitable for a hallway, drawing room, bedroom or above a console table.
