This nineteenth-century Victorian pier mirror originates from the grand Regency era and takes the form of a vertical wall-hanging glass panel. The frame is constructed from mahogany timber, finished in a warm brown colour with a polished sheen that highlights the natural grain. Architectural influences define the design, which incorporates a protruding moulded top cornice above a horizontal decorative frieze. Flanking the central mirror plate are two substantial wooden pilasters, each embellished with heavy turned columns and rounded block feet at the base and capitals at the top. The surface shows an even polish across the woodwork with gentle variations in tone, presenting an authentic historic character suitable for period interiors. Measuring 55 cm high and 45 cm wide, the piece is compact enough for versatile placement. In a modern home, this wall mirror provides a striking decorative focal point positioned above a sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or living space.

A pier mirror is a tall, vertical wall mirror originally designed to be placed on the wall section between two windows, known as a pier, or above a matching console table to maximize natural light reflection.

These mirrors are primarily constructed from solid or veneered mahogany frames, often featuring silvered glass plates and detailed architectural timber mouldings or turned columns.

Authentic period pieces usually feature hand-cut joinery on the timber backing, subtle silvering or oxidisation marks on the glass, hand-turned pilasters, and a deep natural patina on the wood surface.

A pier mirror can be positioned above an entryway console, mounted between tall windows, or hung in a narrow hallway to introduce architectural character and reflect light throughout the room.

The mahogany frame should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth and polished occasionally with beeswax, while the glass should be cleaned using a damp cloth without allowing liquid to contact the wood boundary.
