This set of four Victorian Country smokers bow armchairs originates from 1900. Built from elm and beech, the timber displays a warm amber tone throughout the continuous curved armrests, horseshoe crest rails, and sculpted saddle seats. Each chair rests on turned legs connected by stretchers and incorporates spindled backs beneath the broad upper rails. Visible details include rounded arm terminals, flared back supports, and visible grain patterns across the wooden surfaces. These armchairs function practically around a dining table, in a study, or as occasional seating in a living room. The compact proportions allow them to fit easily under tables or into corners, bringing traditional English country house character to domestic interior spaces.

A smokers bow chair is a low-backed, heavy-duty wooden armchair featuring a continuous curved crest rail that forms the arms, popular in nineteenth-century English public houses, offices, and domestic settings.

These chairs were historically built using turned solid timber components, frequently pairing a shaped elm seat with ash or beech spindles and a steam-bent top rail secured via wedged mortise-and-tenon joints.

Authentic period examples display hand-worked tool marks on the underside of the seat, wedged joinery, natural wear patterns around the stretcher rails, and subtle variations in the turned components.

A set of smokers bow armchairs can be arranged around a contemporary timber dining table or placed individually as desk seating in a home study or hallway setting.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply clear beeswax polish along the grain twice yearly, and keep the chairs away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
