Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 1930 French Provincial bedside cabinets are made from warm brown cherry wood. Each piece stands upon elegant cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet, and features a slightly bow-front shape with a scalloped gallery around the top edge. The front is decorated with decorative brass drop handles and a carved shell motif positioned on the serpentine aprons. One cabinet includes three drawers while the second has a single upper drawer above an open shelf compartment, accompanied by detailed edge mouldings on the drawer faces. The pair measures 69 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 33 cm deep. These versatile pieces suit placement in a bedroom beside a bed, or in a living space positioned at the end of a sofa for accessible surface space and storage. Their classic French style blends well with both traditional and transitional interior schemes, providing practical surface areas for lamps, books, and night-time essentials while adding decorative character to the room.

FAQs

A chevet is a traditional French term for a small bedside table or nightstand designed to stand beside a bed. Historically crafted with drawers or open compartments, these pieces provide accessible storage while complementing French bedroom furniture suites.

Traditional French chevets are commonly constructed from native hardwoods such as cherry wood, walnut, oak, and beech. The drawers and frames often feature hand-carved details, dovetail joinery, and solid cast brass pull handles or backplates.

Authentic French provincial bedside tables typically feature distinct design characteristics including cabriole legs, carved shell or acanthus leaf motifs, and shaped serpentine aprons. Inspection of interior drawer joinery, timber grain patterns, and hand-finished brass fittings also indicates genuine craftsmanship.

French cherry wood bedside tables can be integrated into contemporary bedrooms alongside neutral textiles, tailored upholstery, and simple table lamps. The warm wood tones contrast effectively against cool wall palettes, while their compact scale allows them to function equally well as accent side tables beside a sofa.

Solid cherry wood furniture should be dusted regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and protected from direct sunlight or extreme heat sources. Periodic applications of high-quality beeswax paste maintain the finish, protect the timber surface, and prevent drying or cracking over time.
