This pair of bedside tables belongs to the 1930 period and follows a French Provincial style. Fashioned from warm brown oak, the timber displays a rich wooden finish with visible grain patterns. Each piece incorporates a single upper drawer fitted with a small round knob, an open storage alcove underneath, and a delicately scalloped apron at the base. Slender curved cabriole legs support the structure, adding a graceful silhouette alongside rounded edges along the top frame. Minor surface wear of age is visible across the wooden surfaces. Measuring 40 cm wide by 25 cm deep and 77 cm high, these tables are slightly taller and wider than standard bedside furniture. Their compact footprint and useful mix of closed and open storage suit placement next to a bed in a principal bedroom or guest room, providing convenient surfaces for a reading lamp and nighttime essentials while complementing traditional or rustic interior schemes.

FAQs

During the 1930s, French provincial and classic influences combined to produce functional bedroom furniture characterised by refined cabriole legs, compact drawers, and open storage alcoves.

Traditional French pieces were crafted using solid oak or fruitwood, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, dovetail drawer construction, and hand-contoured decorative aprons.

Look for natural patination on the timber surface, hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, authentic grain variations, and period-appropriate pull handles or wood knobs.

Position these tall, slender tables alongside a bed frame, pairing them with contemporary brass lamps and structured ceramics to contrast the classic curved silhouettes.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the wood grain to nourish the timber and protect the finish.
