We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

FAQs

French Provincial furniture from the 1930s combines regional craftsmanship with understated interpretations of classical styles, notably Louis XV motifs. Pieces frequently feature solid hardwoods, subtle cabriole legs, and simple turned or carved detailing tailored for functional domestic settings.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised native European hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and cherry. Construction involved traditional joinery methods, including dovetail joints for drawers and mortise-and-tenon framing for structural longevity.

Look for authentic construction details such as hand-finished drawer linings, period-appropriate hardware, and natural wear around handles and legs. The timber should demonstrate genuine age and grain variations rather than uniform synthetic distressing.

Place the pair alongside a modern upholstered or timber bed frame to introduce textural contrast. Complement the warm wood tones with neutral linen bedding, contemporary table lamps, and minimalistic decorative accessories.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly to nourish the wood grain. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or splitting.
