This early 20th century country armchair from the 1920s adopts a rustic farmhouse style, echoing late 17th century Carolean and Restoration silhouettes. The piece is constructed from warm brown ash and elm with a cane and rattan back and seat, presenting a natural timber finish with visible rustic patina and signs of age and wear. Notable details include a decorative carved rosette on the top rail, ring-turned stiles, curved armrests, bulbous turned forelegs, swept square section back legs, and turned stretchers. The chair measures 107.5 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this armchair serves as a comfortable seating option in a living room, study, or hallway. The sturdy wooden frame and woven cane panels provide functional support while adding texture and traditional character to interior spaces.

Rustic cane-backed armchairs typically feature solid timber frames, hand-woven rattan or cane panels on the seat and backrest, and decorative turned legs or carved details common in traditional regional furniture making.

These armchairs were traditionally constructed using hardwoods such as oak, ash, or elm for the frame, paired with peeled rattan palm stems woven through pre-drilled frame holes to form the supportive mesh seat and back.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, uneven wear patterns around the armrests and turned stretchers, dark patinated wood finishes, and individually hand-threaded cane work showing subtle variations rather than machine-made webbing.

Position the armchair in an open corner, beside a fireplace, or alongside modern upholstered furniture to introduce tactile texture, natural wood tones, and traditional craftsmanship to a contemporary room scheme.

Keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent the cane from drying out and snapping. Lightly mist the cane web occasionally with water to preserve flexibility, and clean the wooden frame with a soft cloth and beeswax polish.
