Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This painted Hepplewhite style chair dates from 1850 and displays a later soft green finish complemented by painted decoration on the shield back. The armchair has a woven cane seat panel and curved armrests that sweep down to the front edge of the seat, supported by straight, tapering legs outlined with thin golden lines. The top rail features small square patterns flanking a central urn motif, while the backrest includes vertical pilasters with painted floral drops. Measuring 93 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 54 cm deep, the piece works well as a decorative desk seat, a dressing table chair, or an occasional accent piece placed against a wall in a living room or hallway.

Hepplewhite style seating originates from 18th-century English cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite, characterised by lighter proportions, straight tapered legs, and distinctive backrests incorporating shield, heart, or urn shapes, often accented with painted detailing.

These chairs are constructed from hardwoods such as beech or mahogany, finished with hand-painted polychrome decoration, and feature seats woven from natural rattan cane.

Look for crisp hand-carved joinery, square tapered or turned legs, original woven cane work, and hand-applied painted decoration showing natural age-related patina and wear.

This type of chair functions effectively as a standalone accent piece beside a desk, in a dressing room, or placed in a hallway to add historical contrast against modern backdrops.

Dust painted wood surfaces gently with a dry soft cloth, avoiding chemical solvents, and lightly humidify the underside of the cane seat periodically to maintain elasticity and prevent cracking.
