Standing nine feet six inches tall. 38" x 100" mirror plate within a superb giltwood frame with an arched top and carved laurel leaf detail. Gilding appears to be largely original, a little chipped and rubbed through in places to reveal the red ground below. Very good condition, with replacement glass and some minor retouching.

This impressive late Victorian mirror dates from 1880 in the French Chateau style. The tall pier glass features an arched top and a straight base line, constructed from gilt wood and gesso with a glass plate. The wide frame displays elaborate carved foliate moulding and laurel leaf ornamentation in an aged gold finish, with chipped gilding that reveals a red ground below. Measuring 289.5 cm high, 129.5 cm wide, and 10 cm deep, the large scale makes it ideal for positioning against a narrow wall space in a hallway, drawing room, or grand reception area to bounce light around the room.
