This Georgian tea caddy is a small rectangular box made from figured harewood with a hinged lid. The exterior displays a warm brown colour with fiddleback grain, complemented by a central oval floral wood inlay on the front panel and a small diamond keyhole escutcheon fitted with a key. The period piece stands 9.5 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 14 cm deep, and dates to circa 1790. In a home today, this piece sits neatly on a sideboard top or a living room console, providing an authentic touch of English country house style for display or gentle everyday storage.

A Georgian tea caddy is a small decorative container produced during the reign of the Georgian monarchs in Britain, specifically designed to secure and preserve loose tea leaves, which were a valuable luxury commodity at the time.

Craftsmen used fine native and imported hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and harewoodsycamore stained with iron saltsoften decorated with wood marquetry, ivory escutcheons, and foil linings.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as fine dovetail joints, natural timber oxidisation, hand-cut lock mechanisms, and wear consistent with age around the hinges and base.

A tea caddy can be styled as a standalone accent on a sideboard top, curated within a bookshelf display, or paired with contemporary decorative objects on a console table.

Keep the object away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent wood movement and lacquer cracking, dusting periodically with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax sparingly.
