A Regency gilt convex mirror, often called a butlers mirror or bullseye mirror, is a circular wall glass featuring a curved plate that provides a wide-angle reflection of the room, popular during the British Regency period in the early 19th century.

These frames are typically constructed from carved softwood or gessoed composition over a wooden base, finished with hand-applied gold leaf or gilt paint. The glass is blown and silvered to create a spherical, bulging surface.

Authentic pieces often exhibit signs of age such as foxing or oxidation on the mirror plate, shrinkage cracks in the gesso or wood frame, and hand-tooled carving details rather than modern synthetic casting.

This piece works effectively as a focal point above a mantelpiece, sideboard, or in a narrow hallway, where its reflective surface bounces light around the space and introduces a historical accent to contemporary decor.

Maintain the item by dusting gently with a soft, dry brush and avoiding moisture or chemical cleaners on the delicate gilt surface and historical mirror plate.
