This pair of early 20th-century Swedish armchairs dates from around 1920 and is designed in the Karl Johan taste with Swedish Biedermeier influences. Constructed from birch with a warm honey gold finish, the chairs display detailed wood grain and prominent carving. Each armchair features a shaped scroll crest rail, flowing scrolling armrests, and a carved mid-rail with central relief decoration, above upholstered seats covered in green striped fabric and sabre legs at the front. The upholstery exhibits some plucking and minor staining while remaining in usable condition. Measuring 87.5 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 57 cm deep, these seating pieces are suited for placement in a formal reception room, study, or living space as functional seating.

Keep wooden frames away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber shrinkage or split joints. Dust regularly with a clean, dry microfiber cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly along the wood grain to preserve the finish.

The honey-toned timber and warm grain complement light, neutral contemporary palettes. These armchairs function effectively as flanking accent seating in a living room, dedicated study carvers, or end chairs for a dining table.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved decorative motifs, such as acanthus, palmette, or scroll details on the backrest and mid-rails. Examining frame undersides often reveals period joinery, light timber age patination, and original upholstery attachment marks.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised native light hardwoods, particularly satin birch, flame birch, and pine framing. Structural frame elements were traditionally secured using mortise and tenon joinery before being finished with clear varnish or wax.

Swedish Biedermeier furniture emerged during the 19th and early 20th centuries, combining Neoclassical symmetry with clean lines and light native woods such as birch. The style is recognised for restrained ornamentation, smooth veneered surfaces, and architectural silhouettes.
