Set Of 9 Carved Dining Chairs

Circa 1860. Set of 9 carved mahogany dining chairs (ex, Rossi Priory Perthshire originally the home of Lord Kinnaird), most of the chairs stamped Thomas Mays, 102 Wardle Street, London and a K, being the initial of Lord Kinnaird. The chairs, some upholstered in leather and other in fabric, with a padded back and curved top rail with foliate carving to the facing. The chairs have button and pleated leather, and fabric backs and large stuff over seats and the back legs are turned and slightly out swept finishing with a small curl towards the end. The front legs with carved quarter blocks and foliate carving with ribbing and beadings on the facing which runs all the way down to the foot, finishing on a turned toe.
