Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of eight eighteenth-century French Provincial dining chairs originates from the eighteenth century. Each chair has a solid oak frame displaying a worn timber patina, a high rectangular backrest, and square upholstered seats covered in blue-grey fabric with exposed metal stud detailing along the edges. The construction incorporates turned wooden front stretchers and simple vertical supports, with solid corner joints throughout. Individual chairs measure 107 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. Suitable for formal dining rooms or around large communal tables in traditional or transitional domestic interiors, these chairs provide practical seating for daily meals and gatherings.

FAQs

18th-century French dining chairs typically feature solid oak frames, rectangular high backs, turned stretchers, and padded fabric panels secured with decorative metal studding.

Craftsmen primarily utilised solid French oak, hand-carved joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, natural horsehair or wool padding, and upholstery fastened with iron or brass tacks.

Authentic period chairs display hand-planed timber surfaces, slight asymmetry from hand construction, pegs at frame joints, and natural wear patterns along lower turned stretchers.

Pairing tall upholstered French oak chairs with a clean-lined modern dining table creates an appealing visual contrast between historical woodwork and contemporary design.

Apply a natural beeswax polish to the oak frames periodically to feed the wood, and vacuum fabric upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment to remove dust.
