This set of eight dining chairs from the nineteenth-century Queen Anne Revival period includes two carvers and six side chairs. The wood has an off-white painted finish with a distressed appearance, complemented by drop-in seats upholstered in black and white striped fabric. Each chair has a vasiform splat with carved cresting at the top, curved open arms on the carvers, and cabriole legs. Signs of wear are visible in the chipped paint across the surfaces. In a contemporary home, these chairs serve around a dining table in a dining room or kitchen. The set measures 108 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 46 cm deep.

During the 1920s, furniture makers frequently produced revival styles drawing on 18th-century Queen Anne and Gustavian design. These chairs typically feature elegant vasiform back splats, cabriole legs, subtle crest carving, and hand-painted or painted-distressed finishes designed to lighten interior spaces.

These pieces were generally crafted from solid hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or mahogany before being primed and finished in gesso, milk paint, or eggshell. Seats were commonly upholstered using webbed spring construction covered in cotton, linen, or wool upholstery.

Authentic 1920s chairs show evidence of age appropriate wear through layered painted finishes, hand-turned joinery, and period construction along the seat rails. Standard metric fixings or synthetic modern adhesives indicate later production.

A set of painted period chairs pairs effectively with modern oak, zinc, or marble dining tables to create balanced visual texture. Neutral upholstered fabrics and soft grey or off-white paint finishes complement both contemporary and traditional interior colour palettes.

Clean painted wooden surfaces using a soft dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners or abrasive polishes that can lift delicate, aged paint layers. Fabric upholstery should be gently vacuumed with a soft brush attachment and spot-cleaned using specialized textile cleaners.
