This pair of Italian armchairs, dating from the 1920 period in the Venetian Rococo style, consists of carved wood, gesso, and damask upholstery in a sage green finish. The chairs feature a shaped back with foliate top rail, padded armrests, and a shell cresting. The upholstery displays floral damask fabric in red and cream tones, secured with brass studding along the borders, complementing the distressed green glaze on the timber frames. Additional detailing includes shaped arm supports, serpentine aprons, cabriole legs, and elaborate foliate carving. Each armchair measures 113 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 59 cm deep. In a contemporary home, these armchairs provide comfortable seating in a drawing room, bedroom, or reading nook, offering a distinctive period aesthetic. They work well paired together around a low table or positioned individually as statement accent seating.

Italian Rococo furniture is characterised by serpentine silhouettes, asymmetric carved scrollwork, shell crests, and polychrome painted finishes inspired by 18th-century Venetian design.

Frames were typically carved from native hardwoods such as beech or lime wood, coated in gesso, finished with tempera paints or gilded highlights, and upholstered in patterned brocade or damask.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved frame joinery, natural flaking or craquelure across the gesso paint layers, and hand-stitched webbing within the seat structure.

These decorative seats work well as contrasting accent pieces alongside modern minimalist sofas or positioned opposite a mantelpiece to add historical texture.

Dust painted surfaces gently with a dry microfibre cloth without liquid polish, and vacuum textile upholstery carefully using a soft brush attachment.
