This pair of late nineteenth-century Jacobean Revival armchairs uses dark brown oak timber and burgundy leather upholstery. Each chair possesses a high rectangular backrest and a square seat upholstered in deep red leather, edged with rows of brass studding. Carved lion head finials top the upright posts, while the wooden frames display extensive barley twist turnings on the front legs, arm supports, and lower stretchers. Padded armrests covered in matching burgundy leather sit atop the arms, and shaped blocks join the joints of the turned wooden components. The timber exhibits a deep brown finish throughout the construction. Each armchair measures 102 cm high by 64 cm wide and 62 cm deep. Suitable for use in a gentleman's library or study, these armchairs provide formal seating around a desk or within a reception space. Their traditional Jacobean Revival aesthetic complements period interiors, offices, or living rooms furnished with dark wood furniture. The solid oak construction and upholstered panels offer practical daily seating while maintaining a formal historical appearance. Homeowners can position them as a matched pair flanking a fireplace, writing table, or bookcase within a domestic interior.

Jacobean Revival furniture, popular during the late Victorian era, features decorative woodwork inspired by 17th-century designs, including spiral-turned barley twist legs, carved finials, and heavy timber construction.

These chairs were primarily crafted from solid oak for structural frame strength, featuring hand-turned spindle joinery, brass upholstery studs, and leather or heavy textile coverings.

Authentic pieces display hand-turned barley twist stretchers, traditional mortise and tenon joints, natural timber patina beneath the polish, and aged brass fixings around the upholstered areas.

Position a pair of these chairs alongside a neutral contemporary sofa or within a study to create contrast between historical craftsmanship and clean modern architecture.

Apply natural beeswax polish to the oak framework annually using a soft lint-free cloth, while treating leather elements with a specialised leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking.
