Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass, is a free-standing mirror designed to sit on top of a table or chest of drawers. Popularised in the 18th century, these mirrors feature an adjustable swivelling glass frame supported by uprights, often set atop a shallow wooden plinth containing miniature drawers for grooming accessories.

Primary woods included dense Cuban mahogany and walnut, occasionally accented with boxwood stringing or gilt slip borders around the glass. The mirror plate was historically silvered glass, while drawer pulls and hinge adjustments were fashioned from solid brass.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-dovetailed drawer construction, oak or pine secondary woods lining the drawer interiors, and hand-cut brass fittings. The silvered glass often exhibits minor oxidisation, and the timber displays a rich natural patina formed over centuries of handling.

Place the mirror atop a modern sideboard, hallway console, or vanity table to create an eclectic focal point. Paired with contemporary lighting or clean-lined decor, the warm mahogany tones provide historical contrast and texture to modern room schemes.

Clean the mahogany timber using a soft cloth and beeswax polish, avoiding silicone-based sprays that build up over time. Clean the glass with a slightly dampened microfiber cloth, taking care not to let liquid seep behind the frame onto the original mirror backing.
