Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian toilet mirror, also referred to as a dressing glass, is a small portable mirror designed during the eighteenth century to sit atop a chest of drawers or dressing table. These pieces typically feature an adjustable swivelling mirror glass mounted above a wooden box base containing small drawers for storing grooming items.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian period primarily constructed dressing mirrors using dark hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, often incorporating secondary woods like pine or oak for interior drawer linings. Decorative features included brass handles, bone or ivory keyhole escutcheons, and fine wood marquetry or stringing.

Authentic Georgian mirrors usually exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the base drawers, hand-carved wooden support horns, and original brass swivel fixings on the mirror frame sides. Additional indicators include irregular hand-drawn glass or foxing on the original mirror plate and faint saw marks on unpolished wooden backings.

An antique toilet mirror can be placed on a modern hallway console, a bedroom chest of drawers, or a vanity unit to create contrast against contemporary decor. The warm wood tones and classical silhouette serve as a decorative focal point while providing functional reflective surface area.

Maintain the wooden frame and box base by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually along the wood grain. Avoid applying liquid glass cleaner directly to the mirror pane, as moisture can seep behind the frame and damage the historical silvering or wooden backing.
