Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, or dressing mirror, is a free-standing mirror designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to sit atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or cabinet. Victorian examples often featured adjustable oval or rectangular glass frames mounted above plinth bases fitted with small storage drawers for trinkets.

Victorian dressing mirrors were predominantly crafted from solid woods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently faced with highly figured veneers like flame mahogany or burr walnut. Mirrors were fitted with silvered plate glass held by adjustable brass thumb screws or wooden pivots.

Authentic nineteenth-century swing mirrors typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, original slotted steel or brass wood screws, and natural ageing to the mercury or silvered mirror backing. The timber often shows uneven patination on unexposed surfaces, along with hand-carved decorative supports.

Position the mirror on top of a contemporary chest of drawers, a low hallway sideboard, or a marble-topped vanity unit to create a focal point. Combining the warm wood tones and carved details of period furniture with clean, minimalist backdrops provides visual depth and contrast.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain. Clean the mirror glass carefully using a lightly dampened cloth, avoiding liquid contact with the frame or glass edges to prevent desilveration.
