Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French tub chair has a curved backrest that flows into sloping arms finished with pleated upholstery and decorative tack detailing along the lower border. The frame stands on dark turned wooden legs with rounded collar profiles, supporting a deep cushioned seat upholstered in plain pale cream fabric showing slight marks of age. It measures 81 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 79 cm deep. Such a seating piece suits a living room corner, a bedroom reading nook, or a study where a compact profile provides a comfortable armchair. The neutral fabric tones blend with various interior colour schemes, while the traditional silhouette adds classic character to period and eclectic residential schemes alike.

FAQs

Emerging in 19th-century France, the tub chairtraditionally known as a fauteuil crapaudis characterised by its low profile, rounded backrest, and integrated armrests designed for comfortable, intimate seating.

These chairs typically feature a solid hardwood internal frame, hand-tied steel coil springs, jute webbing, horsehair or coconut fibre padding, and turned wooden legs.

Authentic period examples often display hand-tacked upholstery foundations, traditional horsehair stuffing discernible beneath the lining, heavy solid timber frames, and turned front feet.

Position the chair in a bedroom corner, dressing room, or reading nook, paired with a modern floor lamp or alongside minimalist side tables to create visual balance.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent timber shrinkage and fabric degradation, vacuum gently with a soft brush attachment, and consult an upholstery specialist for restoration.
