This eighteenth-century Queen Anne wall mirror has a rectangular walnut frame with warm brown crossgrain veneers and a cushion-moulded body. A quarter cut rounded outer moulding surrounds the wooden structure, while an inlaid rounded point chevron banding borders the central glass plate. The piece displays an aged reflective mirror plate with visible foxing and wear. Measuring 56 cm in height, 49 cm in width, and 6 cm in depth, the mirror suits placement above a sideboard in an English country house setting. It hangs on a wall to provide functional reflection and decorative warmth in a living space, hallway, or dining room.

Popular during the William and Mary and Queen Anne periods, cushion mirrors feature a convex, pillow-moulded frame typically finished with highly figured walnut crossgrain veneers and delicate herringbone inlays.

Craftsmen utilised pine or oak backing carcasses veneered with figured walnut, incorporating crossgrain mouldings and hand-cut joinery alongside early mercury-gilded or silvered glass plates.

Authentic period mirrors exhibit signs of age such as hand-sawn rear boards, natural oxidisation spotting on the glass plate, slight shrinkage along veneer seams, and period-appropriate crossgrain walnut moulding.

Positioning a walnut mirror above a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece introduces warm wood tones, natural light reflection, and architectural interest to modern living spaces.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply beeswax sparingly to protect the veneer, and clean the glass carefully using a damp cloth while preventing moisture from reaching the frame edges.
