This Georgian wall mirror originates from the eighteenth century, dating to circa 1760. The piece takes the form of a small rectangular hanging mirror constructed from walnut with a warm brown colour, wax polished finish, and cross-grain moulding surrounding the replacement glass mirror plate. The carved pierced fretwork frame incorporates an ornate scrollwork apron, an intricate openwork cresting with acanthus leaf motifs, and side ear decorations. A small metal hanging loop protrudes from the right side frame edge. Measuring 69 cm in height, 41 cm in width, and 3 cm in depth, the compact proportions allow placement in smaller residential spaces such as narrow hallways, powder rooms, or above a compact mantelpiece.

Georgian wall mirrors from the 18th century are characterised by hand-cut fretwork, symmetrical scrollwork framing, and rich timber veneers such as walnut or mahogany.

These mirrors typically feature solid pine or oak backings faced with figured walnut veneers, housing flat or bevelled silvered glass plates.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn backboards, signs of early glass silvering or minor oxidisation, precise hand-cut fretwork detailing, and age-related timber shrinkage.

Position the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantelpiece to create an architectural focal point that bridges historic craftsmanship with clean modern lines.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax polish sparingly, avoiding contact between glass cleaners and the timber edges.
