Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Queen Anne style wall mirror dates to 1920 and follows traditional English Country House design. The piece uses warm brown burr walnut veneer with parcel gilt wood highlights, glass, and carved parcel gilt detailing. A prominent shell cresting crowns the top centre, flanked by matching gilt leaf scrolls, while elaborate scroll ears project from the upper sides. The rectangular frame holds a bevelled edge mirror plate encircled by an inner carved moulding border, and a smaller gilded motif ornaments the bottom rail. The reverse carries a maker's badge. Measuring 79 cm high, 41 cm wide, and 5 cm deep, this mirror serves functionally in a home today when hung directly above a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece to reflect light and add architectural interest to a living room, hallway, or dining area.

FAQs

Queen Anne and early Georgian mirrors feature figured walnut veneers, often enhanced with parcel gilt details, shaped cresting plates, and decorative carved motifs such as shell or crest embellishments.

These mirrors combine a timber frame veneered with burr or cross-banded walnut, featuring carved wooden highlights coated in gold leaf gilding and traditional silvered mirror glass.

Authentic period examples typically exhibit hand-cut veneer joinery, original timber backing boards with period fixings, age-related patination, and gentle oxidisation on the mirror plate.

Position the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantel to create a focal point, pairing rich wood tones with neutral wall palettes or heritage paint shades.

Dust the timber frame using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoid liquid polish on gilt areas to prevent loss of gold leaf, and clean the glass using a lightly dampened cloth without touching the gilding.
