Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Jacobean Revival mirrors, popular from the late Victorian through Edwardian eras, incorporate seventeenth-century design elements such as turned barley twist columns, geometric mouldings, and hand-carved floral or scroll crestings executed in dark oak timber.

These mirrors were constructed using solid oak frames, often joined with mortise and tenon woodwork. The decorative pilasters were turned on a lathe, while top crests were carved by hand before securing bevelled or flat glass plates with wooden backboards.

Authentic period pieces display irregular saw marks on the timber backboards, light oxidisation or foxing on the silvered glass, natural age shrinkage along wood joins, and hand-carved detail work that exhibits minor asymmetrical variations.

Mount the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantel to create a textural contrast between rich timber turning and modern neutral walls. The piece also functions effectively in entryways to add depth and reflect natural light.

Dust the oak framework regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to preserve the timber finish. Clean the glass plate using a damp cloth, avoiding excess moisture near the frame edges to prevent silvering damage.
