Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large French provincial oak wall mirror dates from 1900 and exhibits a warm brown wax finish over natural timber grain. The rectangular glass plate displays slight misting to the bottom left corner and sits within a frame featuring a moulded upper cornice above a carved floral frieze and vertical floral carvings down each side. Two small metal hanging loops project from the top edge of the frame. Measuring 130.5 cm high, 88 cm wide, and 6.5 cm deep, this vertical wall mirror suits placement above a sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or living area to reflect light and add traditional character to the interior space.

FAQs

French oak wall mirrors originating from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries reflect regional French woodworking traditions, constructed primarily as functional decorative accents for residential interiors.

These mirrors were crafted using solid oak timber frames featuring hand-cut joinery, fitted with silvered glass plates and structured timber backing panels.

Authentic examples exhibit low-relief hand-carved floral or botanical crests, traditional mortise and tenon frame construction, and natural age-related oxidisation on the glass.

Mounting the mirror above a dining room sideboard or an entryway console table helps reflect natural light while introducing warm timber tones to contemporary spaces.

Dust the oak frame using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish periodically, taking care to spray glass cleaner directly onto a cloth rather than the timber frame.
