Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in late 18th-century Britain, George III satinwood open armchairs are characterised by Neoclassical lines, light-coloured exotic timber, and open padded armrests. The style reflects the influence of designers like Thomas Sheraton and Robert Adam, emphasising delicate proportions and classical motifs.

These chairs typically feature a solid frame veneered or detailed in West Indian satinwood, noted for its fine grain and golden lustre. Primary construction methods included hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, marquetry inlay, and brass castors affixed to tapered legs.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carving, hand-cut joinery, and subtle shrinkage line variations along veneer panels. Look for original brass castors, square peg construction, and genuine aged patina on the underside of the seat frame.

Position a George III open armchair alongside a contemporary sofa or beside a minimalist writing desk to create visual contrast. The warm tones of satinwood pair effectively with modern muted textiles, natural stone accents, or clean-lined architectural backdrops.

Keep satinwood furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking or fading. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax paste sparingly once or twice a year to protect the finish.
