Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the early 19th century in Britain, a Regency compartmental overmantel mirror features a wide, horizontal profile divided into three glass sections separated by thin moulded dividers, typically adorned with classical, rope-twist, or architectural giltwood borders.

These mirrors were predominantly constructed with carved pine or lime wood foundations, coated in gesso, and finished with hand-applied gold leaf. The glass plates were historically made using mercury silvering techniques and held within structured timber or ebonised inner slips.

Authentic period pieces generally exhibit natural wear to the gilding revealing underlying red or grey bole, original wood panel backings, and subtle distortions or silvering oxidisation in the original glass plates.

Positioning a wide gilt overmantel mirror above a fireplace or a low console table creates a focal point, reflecting natural light across the room while contrasting period detailing with clean modern lines.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a soft feather duster or dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners that dissolve gold leaf and gesso. Clean the glass carefully with a lightly dampened microfibre cloth without allowing moisture to reach the frame borders.
