This Regency flame mahogany double tea caddy of sarcophagus form exhibits a warm brown colour with rich grain patterns across its polished surfaces. The hinged lid lifts to reveal a fitted interior containing two removable mahogany caddy canisters with small hinged lids, flanked by a central lead crystal sugar bowl with decorative cut patterns held in its own square section. Brass hardware includes a keyhole escutcheon on the front exterior and a hinge mechanism along the back interior edge. The box stands upon turned mahogany squashed bun feet at each bottom corner. Measuring 17.8 cm high, 30.5 cm wide and 17.8 cm deep, this lidded container sits neatly upon a sideboard top or accent table in a living room, dining room or hallway as a decorative display piece or storage container for small treasures.

A sarcophagus tea caddy is a wooden storage chest styled after classical ancient tombs, defined by its tapered sides and raised lid, produced during the British Regency era to store imported tea leaves.

Regency tea caddies were constructed primarily from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring brass escutcheons, foil linings, and central wells fitted with cut glass blending bowls.

Authentic pieces feature period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, natural wood patination, original brass lock plates, and twin internal canisters positioned on either side of a central glass jar.

An antique tea caddy functions as a decorative accent on sideboards, mantelpieces, or bookshelves, providing historical context while offering enclosed storage for small items.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the wood grain, keeping the caddy away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage.
